Imperial History of the Middle East

Here is an animation from Maps of War that illustrates all of the empires that have controlled the Middle East for the past 5000 years - all in 90 seconds. Very well done. It's no wonder control of this area is so disputed.

Pumpkins and Zoo Animals Again

It's time for the annual flood of photos that show zoo animals eating pumpkins. Is there any creativity left in the media. Must they always repeat the same things year after year after year?

On second thought, they are pretty cute.

Miss Tibet Contestant Should Look in a Mirror

This photo shows Metok Lhanzey , 20, during the swim wear round of The Miss Tibet beauty pageant. At 17 years old, Lhanzey was in a Chinese prison in solitary confinement. Perhaps her crime was forgetting to check herself in a mirror. It took my wife a while to find the problem, but most guys should be able to spot it right away. Ladies, make sure your bathing suits are lined.

New Google Reader Feature

Google Reader has a new release with a user-requested feature. Now you can label a new subscription when you subscribe to it. There is a new drop down menu to "Change Folders."

Do You Want America to Win?

There seems to be a common theme here. It is very simple question, and one that should be easy for any American to answer, but no liberal seems to be able to answer the question with a "Yes."

Death by Coffee

We all know too much coffee is bad for you, but did you ever wonder how you'd have to drink to kill yourself? Me either, but Energy Fiend has. Find out how much will kill you here. I think I'll switch to hot cocoa.

Double Standard on Circumcision

Khalid Adem, an Ethiopian immigrant to the US, is on trial near Atlanta for circumcising his 2-year-old daughter in what could be the first criminal case involving the ancient African practice. Adem has been charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children. He allegedly got a male friend to hold his daughter down while he snipped the toddler's clitoris off with a pair of household scissors.

It seems odd to me that so many Americans find this practice so despicable, yet they don't bat an eye when it comes to male infant circumcision. Why do we have this double standard? Both practices are barbaric and unnecessary.

I understand there is biblical justification for male circumcision, but if female genital mutilation is considered a crime, why is male infant circumcision not?

Camille Paglia Speaks

Salon interviews Camille Paglia after nearly a year's absense. I always look forward to reading what this woman has to say. Her assessment of the pushing of the Foley scandal by the Democratic Party is spot on.

And with the Democrats' record of sex scandals, what the hell were they thinking of? For heaven's sake, after we just got through the whole Clinton maelstrom! What Clinton did with Monica Lewinsky was far worse than any evidence I've seen thus far about what Foley did with these pages.
She had this to say Bill Clinton's recent explosion on Fox News.
It may have been mixed. It began as a challenge to the right-wing media, but I think Clinton got out of control and went embarrassingly too far. It was a perfectly civil and reasonable question from one of Fox's most neutral commentators. But Clinton went off on a tirade, waved his finger in Chris Wallace's face, and accused him of sitting there with a "smirk." That was over-personalizing the interview by any standard.
You can find the entire interview here at Salon.

Steyn on Hot Air - Part 2

Here is part 2 of Michelle Malkin's interview with Mark Steyn. He calls CNN's broadcast of Jihadi sniper video "wickedness." He lets loose on feminists saying their silence on honor killings in the west is "quite despicable." He talks for quite a while about the uselessness of trying to reason with the Cindy Sheehans and Michael Moores of the world because they don't want America to win. I thought it quite funny when he wasn't sure if it was Winston Churchill or John Lennon who said,
"An Englishman should be able to live wherever he pleases."

Steyn on Hot Air

Check out part 1 of Michelle Malkin's interview with Mark Steyn at Hot Air, although Michelle is feeling 'gloomy.' The subject bums me out too, but both are excellent as usual.

Behind the Mouth

Here's a short video that shows the behind-the-scenes workings of the Neal Boortz Show, by far, my favorite radio talk show. It includes interviews with Belinda and Royal, his two producers. Boortz's show is an entertaining mix of news, politics, and sexual innuendo, a perfect mix for any talk show.

Everybody Hates Chris' Mom

What are the crackers at Cracker Barrel up to now? More racial discrimination no doubt against none other than Chris Rock's mother.

I saw an interview with Rose Rock and her NAACP lawyer, and it seemed to me that this was not a case of racial discrimination at all. It seems she became offended when she and her daughter received no service at the Cracker Barrel in Myrtle Beach, SC.

The explanation from Cracker Barrel blamed the lack of service on a shift change. A waitress was not assigned to her table. I believe them.

This happened to me at a different restaurant. After a few minutes, I got up and said, “Hey! Where’s my waitress?” The problem was solved immediately.

Rose Rock, however, had a different way of handling the situation. Even after receiving a written letter of apology, vouchers for free food, and a gift basket, she said she did what she was supposed to do. She called the NAACP.

It’s no wonder Everybody Hates Chris’ Mom.
